ABOUT THE OWNER
Arcel Balderas is a professional chef with over 30 years of experience in the food industry, specializing in BajaMed - a flavorful fusion of Mexican, Mediterranean, and Asian cuisine that showcases the fresh produce and seafood of Baja California. He has perfected the culinary science behind taste, texture, and presentation, and is ready to bring the gourmet experience to your table.
Arcel began his journey into the culinary arts at the young age of 13, when he and his older brother traveled from their small hometown in central Mexico to Baja California in search of work, and found it in the kitchens of Rosarito's hotels and resorts. In the following years, his natural gift for cooking quickly became apparent, as he rose from busboy, to bartender, to head chef. In his early 20's, he was offered the opportunity to manage the kitchen of a restaurant in Oregon, and after much success in Portland, he headed for Hollywood.
Once in Los Angeles, Arcel was in the catering business for many years, cooking all different types of food for the casts of popular tv shows, movies, and music videos. He even had the chance to serve big-time celebrities such as Beyoncé, Adam Levine, Gordon Ramsay, and more. Since then, Arcel has owned and operated several restaurants throughout northern Baja, and is now focusing on his newest endeavor: Arcel's Catering.
